The safari essentials

To prepare for your Safari holiday you should take into consideration all the items you may need, including types of clothing. During the day you would normally wear Khaki/brown/beige shorts and a T-shirt. White should be avoided as it makes you more noticeable to the wildlife. A change into long sleeves and trousers should be brought for the evening for warmth and protection from mosquitoes. Alongside this, insect repellent and other general hot holiday items such as moisturiser, sunscreen/block, sunglasses, binoculars etc. You need to make sure you are not carrying too much as safaris can last long lengths of time and it is unnecessary to bring your whole travel bag with you. Bring a small rucksack which can fit your essentials in comfortably. Everything else should be left at your hotel. Safaris can be a once in a life-time opportunity, make sure you are properly prepared with everything you need. If you are unsure about what you may need, speak to your tour organiser or guide.

Why Tailor Made?

There’s no doubt that the best way to do your Africa tours and travels is the tailor made way. If you decide to choose a tailor made itinerary rather than an off-the-shelf package, your first step is a conversation with your tour operator.

They will be able to chat with you to discuss your wants and needs. Following your conversation they will be able to create a holiday based on what you have discussed, combining your preferences and requirements. Once you’ve received your proposed itinerary, you’re able to make any changes you wish.

You might think it’s perfect first time or you might want to make a few adjustments. Together, you will tweak your itinerary until you’re happy that it’s absolutely perfect for you. From here all the administrative details of your holiday are taken care of.

Booking a tailor made safari means that you’re able to really make the most of your time in Africa, doing exactly what you want to do, seeing what you want to see and staying in camps and lodges suited to your tastes. You won’t be disturbed by other travellers and you’ll be able to enjoy a truly authentic safari experience on this fascinating continent.

Reseaching the african community

Many people want to research the African community for different reasons. It may be for a school project or for your own interest, or maybe it is because you wish to visit Africa on a holiday and would like to research their local community and laws etc. There are many places that you can find this information and some of the best places are websites that have actually been created within that local African community, as who better to discuss it with than the people living there. Many websites offer information such as weather forecasts, local cuisine, safety advice as well as local tourist attractions and places to visit whilst there. African has a lot to offer from relaxing holidays to thrilling safari tours. Many of the locals in Africa are extremely friendly and helpful and it would be nice to learn a bit about their culture before visiting the country.

Get to know the locals whilst in Africa

Whether you are going on a safari holiday or backing around Africa, I would recommend trying to speak to and befriend some of the locals there. You will find most people very friendly and more than happy to help you if you have a question. You are staying in their home town / city and they will be much more savvy on the places to go and not to go than any research you have done yourself or advice you have received from a travel agent. They can also recommend some great dishes to try whilst out there, don’t be scared to try something new, just do it in small doses in case it doesn’t agree with you. Holidays to Africa can be life changing experiences and open your eyes to a whole new world that you may not have encountered before. Why not see for yourself and book a holiday to Africa.

Safety in South Africa

If you are travelling to South Africa, safety is something that you have to take seriously and consider your options.

There have been recent reports of incidents involving foreigners being followed from Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to their holiday accommodation by car and then robbed, very often at gunpoint. Be on your guard in and around the airport and when driving to your location.

It is advised that you travel with someone if possible and stay in well guarded well lit areas. Your tour operator will tell you the places you should and shouldn’t go and it is advised that you strictly stick to these to ensure you safety whilst on holiday in South Africa.

Although there are some security threats that you many need to be aware of, overall you will find most people friendly and welcoming and should ensure you have a smooth and happy holiday whilst there.
